It said, “He was fighting those Child Protective Services folks tooth and claw for me, and calling constantly with progress reports.” Tooth and claw is figurative language. In the chapter called “Fire” (page 118), I found figurative language. I think that the author used this because she wanted to show how annoyed Uncle Jack was. Figuratively it means that you want someone to take a hint on something. Literally, it means, that you are giving a person bait. I found figurative language in the chapter called, “Dinner at the Girl on the Red Swing ( page 103).” It said ” Uncle Jack was very still, hardly breathing, but smiling at her, willing her to take the bait.” “Willing her to take the bait” is figurative language. She wants her parents to come home (they are lost at sea) so that she can live with them. Right now in the book, she is with foster parents and they are at one of Primrose’s favorite restaurants called The Girl on the Red Swing. I am reading Everything on a Waffle by Polly Horvath.
